A thin, rod-shaped structure with spokes in the shape of the number 5, discovered by Michael Craig, in the large Mars Express Cydonia Mensae image is quite remarkable.
Hello everyone, this is my first post here on the CIF and I hope you find it worthwhile.
I thought I would just add a little detail to the discovery. I found the “Number 5” object a few years ago while scanning the
Cydonia area South West of the D & M Pyramid. It was so striking to my eyes that I was surprised I had not heard it mentioned elsewhere. At the time I presumed that it had perhaps been dismissed by other researchers as an explainable geological formation. I also had my own doubts due to the 15 metre per pixel image resolution of the Mars Express image, reasoning that perhaps data compression artifacts had artificially produced the precise geometric angles apparent in the object.
So, before I decided to include it in my book “Secret Mars”, I went in search of an image with more resolution that might at least confirm some of this amazing structures detail. Luckily I found one taken by the
Mars Global Surveyor that managed to snap a part of it, if only the lower portion. This I have included in the diagram as a rough overlay with the Mars Express image. The MGS picture appears to confirm the consistency of the shape, although it’s a shame we can’t see more detail of the ‘spokes’.
There will I'm sure be a possible natural explanation for this formation, and maybe a geologist can tell us what it is. For now, I think the "Number 5 Glyph" may justify a place amongst the more well known geometrically interesting objects at Cydonia. What do you think?
