Just to the north of the enormous Arabia Terra portion of Mars, located in the Syrtis Major hemisphere, is a section of fretted terrain known as Ismeniae Fossae. In reviewing an image of the area that was released in the summer of 2000 (MOC SP-246502) we noticed a set of structures in the lower quarter of the swath that looked anomalous (Figure 1). The first oddity is a highly walled formation on the left side of the image (boxed) which, is a rectangular, kidney -shaped structure with a squared off foot. Notice the set of mounds just behind it to the left. There is a large rectangular mound with four smaller - uniform sized - mounds above it. Figure 1 MOC SP2-46502 (2000) The formation on the right (boxed) in figure 1 is a shallow circular structure with a central knob feature. Notice the lower "walled ledge" that runs from the circular structure (forming a right angle) leading to the walled structure to its left. GJH

Hi marsrocks.
there are a lot of anomalies in this strip (SP-246502).
BTW, this is the same MOC image that has the Martian Bee God geoglyph in it, which is about three-quarters of the way down the strip.
If you recall, the Bee God geoglyph is discussed in Chapter 13 of my second book - The Martian Codex: More Reflections from Mars (pages 195 - 201).

I think I remember it, but I'll check the book when I get a chance to see where it falls on the strip.

Yes - the bee god image is a really good one.
There are a number of other really amazing images around that one also.

My totally random interpretation of this image: Ancient Egyptian-like Priest (symmetrical hat in pink, eyes in blue, mouth in red, beard in brown): Bird (red), Helmeted merman (largest image multi color - helmeted head in center of image in brown - mermaid tail in lower right), box (brown square object to upper left), rabbit mounted on dagger board (yellow), seawitch (in place of bee god), ocean waves (purple).

Note that what I am calling the helmeted merman's head is identical to the classic olmec head: Large round head. Rounded upper helmet. Upper part of helmet divided into sections. Helmet has side panels covering ears. Large pronounced nose. Rounded full lips.

Here is the Martian Bee God. Notice the segmented body, including a set of wings two legs and a head with humanoid facial features. The Martian Bee God looks very much like an image found on a Maya shell pendant depicted as one of the Hero Twins transforming into the bee god. The Martian Bee God geoglyph is located just about the circular and walled structures discussed earlier. GJH

Just wondering who actually found the strip? Was it Peg? I'll have to look it up to make sure they get proper credit.

While it is now 7/28/2021 I will make the note that this was an image first presented by Kat on the Anomaly Hunters BB. I had also featured it on my old Starjim.com website as Kats Image. You can get to that via the Wayback Machine.
