Back in the spring of 2004, The Cydonia Institute notice an odd structure, in the form of a running bird, in one of NASA's newly released THEMIS images. Within the southern region of Acidalia Planitia spilling into the Cydonia area the THEMIS camera photographed a small cluster of mounds that included a segmented formation in the shape of what appears to be a road runner (THEMIS V03945003). Notice the overall shape of the formation has a distinct avian posture. Note the stream-lined running stance of the body, the sharp extended beak, the erect box-shaped crest, the long legs, galloping feet and long tail. NOTE: This is only the first of 5 additional avian formations in this THEMIS strip. George J. Haas

The Cydonia Institute has just posted a new article (on our web site) titled: The Cydonia Aviary. The new article documents a variety of avian-shaped formations seen within the area surrounding the Road Runner geoglyph. Follow link: thecydoniainstitute.com/The-Cydonia-Aviary.phpGJH

Keith Laney has just alerted me to another image of the Road Runner and the entire Cydonia Aviary complex. Here is a crop of the very large (P03 002100 2223 XN 42N010W) image. Note the Road Runner, the Hatchling and the Big-H Parrot are still there. GJH

The Cydonia Institute was not the only group of researchers to observe the Road Runner geoglyph in northern Cydonia. John Lear, who flew secret missions for the CIA and was a Lockheed L-1011 Captain known for his revelations about aerial phenomena and the study of UFO’s and artifacts on the moon and Mars acknowledges the Road Runner geoglyph way back in 2006. Lear reports that the Road Runner geoglyph was observed in Keith Laney’s 2006 colorized ESA image of Cydonia. The report also speculates that the Road Runner could be ....an arcology. An Analogue to the Eagle Head Crater seen on Mars (THEMIS V03945003) can be found in Mesoamerican iconography. Notice the avian head within the round cartouche-shaped glyph that is carved on Monument 27 - discovered in El Baul Mexico. GJH

Another image of the Hatchling geoglyph was obtained by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter’s context camera (CTX) in 2007. The new picture (P03_002100_2223_XN_42N010W) was photographed with the highest resolution seen so far, registering in at 6 meters per pixel. When the physical attributes of the Hatchling geoglyph, as captured in the CTX image are rotated and compared to the morphology of a young blue fronted Amazon parrot the similar body shape and posture of the two creatures is quite striking. OK...I'm watching TV and this Windows 8 commercial comes on. It starts out with a young girl that looks a lot like princes Leia. It then shows photos of a bunch of birds and then an image of the NASA space shuttle blasting off. And then we see an image of Mars with the words "MARS" written across the planet, just to make sure you know its Mars. It then shows more photos of birds and images of Angry Birds dressed as Star Wars characters and ends the quote "May the Birds be with you". So, what does Mars have to do with birds...nothing...if you were not aware of all the BIRD geoglyphs I found on Mars! Link: www.youtube.com/embed/xSILe7yrsog?rel=0GJH

Darwin's early experiments with pigeon breeding sparked his theory of evolution! Darwin said the diversity of pigeons is astonishing and he used his study of the bird to form his book the "Origin of Species”. Pigeon breeding, Darwin argued, was an analogy for what happened in the wild. Nature played the part of the fancier, selecting which individuals would be able to reproduce. Natural selection might work more slowly than human breeders, but it had far more time to produce the diversity of life around us. The MRO HiRISE spacecraft has just released a hi-res image of the road runner geoglyph (ESP_035487_2215) that appears to confirm all this little birds features - that were observed in earlier lower-res images. The Road Runner Geoglyph - MRO HiRISE ESP_035487_2215 (detail) 2014. Considering the age of this formation much of the fine detail has long been lost to the erosion of time and the idea of zooming in with the MRO HiRISE camera for evidence of brick and mortar is like zooming in on the head of the Serpent Mound winding along Brush Creek in Adams County, Ohio. It too may appear to be just another pile of earth and rock. Link: www.uahirise.org/ESP_035487_2215GJH
