Here is a Epi-Olmec two-faced ceramic vessel displayed in the little museum at Chalcatzingo, Mexico (700 BC). The vessel is in the shape of a feline with a half jaguar and half human face. Note the flailing tongue on the jaguar side. GJH

This third example is another pre-Columbian two-faced mask. This bifurcated mask depicts the halved portions of a human and jaguar visage. Hopefully, now that you have become familiar with this split-faced technique, these two separate facial features are so obvious that there is no need to mirror the two faces (Figure 3). A second example of the Mesoamerican perception of duality is found in a striking pottery mask from a grave at Tlatilco, Mexico (Figure 2). One half of this bifurcated mask is a human face with a protruding tongue. The companion side features the halved skull of a feline, possibly a jaguar. The feline skull has a prominent set of teeth and displays a “knob” feature on the side of the head that looks like the remnants of an ear. GJH Attachments:

The following set of artifacts reveals just a portion of a vast cache of split-faced sculptures that were produced throughout the cultures of Mesoamerica. The first example is a fragmented head of a Zapotec child that was associated with the god of death (Figure 1). This split face is classified as a funerary head chronicling the eternal process of human destiny from the vitality of youth to the disintegration of death in one startling image. When the image is split and each side mirrored, the left side features a sullen-faced child wearing a frown. The right side has a skull-like face displaying a distinct grin. GJH Attachments:

Giffords’ husband nears decision on space shuttle flightAstronaut Mark Kelly, the husband of injured Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, is expected to announce tomorrow (2/4/11) whether he'll command the final space shuttle mission in April. Sen. Bill Nelson a former astronaut, said he spoke with Kelly. "He's going to make his announcement tomorrow. I don't know what that's going to be. It is a tough decision for him but I think it's reasonable to expect that he will go on to command this mission in April." Hi charleyblu.
The eastern side of the Face presents the frontal view of a "cut-in-half" image of a feline face. So, what are you seeing in this side of the Face that looks like a lion's paw?

An Analogue to the Eagle Head Crater seen on Mars (THEMIS V03945003) can be found in Mesoamerican iconography. Notice the avian head within the round cartouche-shaped glyph that is carved on Monument 27 - discovered in El Baul Mexico. GJH

While reading the article “Alaska’s Choice Salmon or Gold” in the current issue of National Geographic magazine (December 2010) I notice a picture of a pipe leading form a drill rig pumping water from a mining operation at Pebble, Alaska (Figure 1). Figure 1 Drill rig pumping water at Pebble deposit, Alaska Photo by Michael Melford The image reminded me of a similar formation observed on Mars with a nozzle shooting out sprays of liquid that was discovered by Joseph P. Skipper of the Mars Anomaly Research site back in 2001 (Figure 2). Figure 2 Drill rig pumps water on Mars and Alazka The Cydonia Institute Colorized image by Kurt Schilling Notice the spray of liquid that appears to be rapidly shooting out of the nozzle end of the pipe. The pipe is connected to the top, or narrow end, of a large egg-shaped dome formation that appears smooth and quite unlike its surrounding terrain. The crevasse in which the pipeline extends is dark, however the end of the pipe can be seen jutting out. A second dome formation sits to the west of the egg-shaped dome. This second dome is more squared than the first and it also has a smooth surface. It has a pipeline attached to its eastern edge which also ends with a nozzle spewing out liquid. The length of the pipe has intermittent sets of rectangular-shaped straps that appear to be anchoring the pipe to the ruff terrain. Looking at the image of the flowing pipeline seen in Alaska and the nozzle of gushing liquid on Mars, one can not help but be convinced that what we are witnessing is evidence of flowing water on Mars GJH
