The Feline side of the Cydonia Face has a zig-zag shaped mane, like a lion. We all now that their are no lions in Mexico, however the Olmec, Maya and Aztec had a mythological feline creature with a mane that they called the Bearded Jaguar (Figure 13). The facial features of the Feline side of the Cydonia Face have linear cracks and edges that give it an overall puzzle-like appearance (Figure 12). These puzzle pieces are the result of a compartmentalized design. When the individual puzzle pieces are colorized, the feline mask on Mars highly resembles the many jade masks produced in ancient Mexico. Moving now over to the Feline side of the Cydonia Face, I will begin by taking a closer look at the eye feature (Figure 11). The eye form takes on the shape of a serpent head with a flailing tongue (Figure 12). Notice the eye on the left side. Many early researchers thought the flanged headdress on the Cydonia Face looked Egyptian, however here are two examples of Mesoamerican headdress - that look Egyption (Figure 10). Figure 10 Flanged Headdress Left: Olmec Right: Aztec GJH
