A companion formation to the Profile Face (Nefertiti Face) is located on the opposite side of the planet - in the Nili Fossae region, located in the Northeastern hemisphere of Mars. GJH

The first MOC image M03-05549 of the Profile Face was released in 2000. The profiled portrait includes an eye, nose, chin and dark area conforming to a neck and hair line. The portrait also appears to be wearing a large cylindrical headdress. The second Mars Global Surveyor image E0501429 was released in 2001. It did not capture the entire headdress but it does corroborate the facial features and provides additional evidence that the overall formation is not an illusion or trick of shadows, but a consistent formation on the surface. UP-DATE On the evening of October 15, 2014, John Levassure presented a PowerPoint presentation of the science paper "Analysis of the Mars Global Surveyor and Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter Images of the Syria Planum Profile Face on Planet Mars" during the "New Frontiers in Science" program at the Northern Maine Community College. The event followed a diner open to the public and students, which was attended by around 60 people. Scheduled for 50 minutes, the event went on for over two hours due to overwhelming student engagement. Interest was high. The students were intrigued and discussion was animated. GJH

ALERT The famous “Nefertiti Face on Mars” published in science journal. Our paper - “Analysis of the Mars Global Surveyor and Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter Images of the Syria Planum Profile Face on Planet Mars” has been published in the current issue of the Journal of Space Exploration, (Volume 3, Issue 3, 2014). The paper identifies a human-shaped profile face on the surface of Mars that resembles a young woman, crowned with a cylindrical headdress. The facial formation is documented in four separate NASA photographs that support the portraits 10 points of anatomical correctness. The authors include three members of the Society for Planetary SETI Research, Dr. Horace Crater, John P. Levasseur, George J. Haas and William R. Saunders of The Cydonia Institute. A link to a PDF version of the paper is provided here Note see article 4. GJH
