Located directly below the D&M Pyramid, at the heart of Cydonia (Figure 1), is an unusually shaped formation that has a long extended peninsula-like land mass that juts out from its a large triangular mound (Figure 2). Figure 1 D&M Pyramid with location of unusually shaped formation. Detail MRO CTX image F17_042318_2208_XN_40N009W (2015) Figure 2 Triangular mound with extended peninsula When the formation is rotated 90 degrees, to the left, the head of a donkey or mule comes into focus (Figure 3). Figure 3 Donkey/Mule Head Notice the right facing head has an eye, broad muzzle and large extended ear. There is also evidence of a bridle or strap over the snout. GJH

Back in 2003 the Mars Global spacecraft took a set of high resolution images of D&M Pyramid that also captured The Mammoth Jack Ass formation (Figure 5). A composite of the three MOC images which includes R0600469, R0700422, and R1102437 was created by Keith Laney. Note all images have a resolution of 3.26 meters per pixel or better, were as the CTX image was around 6 meters per pixel.
