Here is a Mayan Jade pendant that features a two-faced image of a Bat and Serpent (Figure 24). Notice the half image of a Bat face on the left and a Serpent on the right. Also notice that the Serpent's tail wraps around the top of the Serpent to the ear of the Bat. Figure 24 Bat and Serpent Face - Maya Jade Pendant Artemis Gallery Here is a comparison with the Bat and Serpent Head on Mars (Figure 25). Figure 25 Comparison of the Bat and Serpent Face on Mars Top: Bat and Serpent Face, Mars (duplicated) Bottom: Bat and Serpent Face, Mexico (duplicated) Notice that the serpent's tail wraps around the top of the serpent to the ear of the bat in both images. Here is a example of a Peruvian gold pendant showing a composite creature of an opened winged bat with serpents (Figure 23). Figure 23 Bat and serpent composite, gold pendant. Peru Notice all of the serpents attached to the main bat body. Also notice the chest of the bat is in the shape of a serpent head. GJH

So...you may be asking, why is there a bifurcated, two-faced mask of a bat and a serpent on Mars and what does this pair of creatures have to do with each other. Well, in the Maya creation mythology the bat and crocodile (serpent) were two creatures that were associated with the Underworld. In the Popol Vuh Museum located in Guatemala there is a sculpture, produced by the Maya, which depicts a bat and a crocodile standing side by side (Figure 21). Just as we saw in Mound C, this formation also appears to have bifurcated facial features on the left and right sides. Here is a duplicated version of the left side of Mound F (Figure 17). Figure 17 Mound F - Bat Head (Left side duplicated) When duplicated the left side of the formation reveals a bat face. Notice the large ears the eyes exposed flaring nostrils and gaping mouth. Here is a duplicated version of the right side of Mound F (Figure 18). Figure 18 Mound F - Serpent Head (Right side duplicated) When duplicated the right side of the formation reveals a serpent head. Notice the snake-shaped head, the small eyes and large extended mouth and flailing tongue.. GJH

Hi Jim. I like your comparison of the 30th Parallel Site with the Big Dipper (The Bear). The current shape of the constellation is not quite the same, however when compared to a projected shape of a 50,000 year old constellation - its a much closer match (Figure 15). Figure 15 Dig Dipper (50,000 years ago) What do you think. GJH

Here is a poster showing both sides of Mound C - side by side (Figure 14). Figure 14 Mound C (Faces Side by Side) Notice it shows a rodent face on the left side and a feline face on the right side. Is this a Martian version of the Cat and the Mouse? GJH

Here is my analysis of Mound D. The formations appears to be an oval platform with a two pointed star/arrow feature at its center (Figure 13). Figure 13 Mound D - Oval Platform with Two Pointed Star. GJH

Here is a duplication of the left side of Mound C (Figure 11). Notice the circular-shaped head may represent a hamster. It has round eyes, with pupil and iris. It has a muzzle and mouth and the ears are formed by the dark area on the head. It also has a fan-shaped decorative feature on its forehead. Figure 11 Mound C - Hamster Head (Left side duplicated) Here is a duplication of the right side of Mound C (Figure 12). The square-shaped head has a broad muzzle, a snarling mouth, squinting eyes and a flaming mane. Here is Mound C (Figure 9). Figure 9 Mound C Notice the small "crater" at the bottom, looks a lot an eye and the dark, sharp form above it, at the top, looks like a squinting eye in shadow. When I rotate the formation 85 degrees to the right a bifurcated mask is revealed....(Figure 10). Figure 10 Mound C with demarcation line. GJH

Here is a closer look at Mound B, within the 30th Parallel Site (Figure 8). Figure 8 Mound B Notice the formation consists of an elongated, triangular structure (trapezoid) that sits on an elevated, circular platform. GJH

Jumping up to Mound E, the formation consists of a large oval-shaped mound and a smaller Broken Pyramid sitting on a large foot-shaped platform (Figure 6). Figure 6 Mound E and Broken Pyramid. Notice the eastern side of the platform is rounded while the western side has a very straight edge. The oval-shaped mound has a narrow, flat plateau that runs along the top of the formation. The Broke Pyramid appears to have been a 4-sided pyramid at one time, but one of its sections (faces) has been destroyed. There are also 3 craters on the southeastern side of the platform that consecutively get smaller and smaller. Here is a similar oval-shaped earthen mound, with a flat, central platform - known as Temple Mound A - that can be compared to Mound E on Mars (Figure 7). Temple Mound A is found at the Kolomoki Mounds site in Gerogia that dates to 30AD. Figure 7 Mound comparison left: Mound A, Mars Right: Temple Mound A, Georgia Perhaps both structures were designed by the same architects... GJH
