George and Bill, I wanted to show you this rock for your input. This rock has several indicia (to my untrained eye, at least) that it may have been artificialy shaped. Spirit sol 93 (also imaged on other sols as well): marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/a....00P2376L4M1.JPGmarsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/all/spirit_p093.htmlComparison to a depiction of the Mayan bird god: pottery.about.com/od/glazesurfaces/ig/Mesoamerican-Pottery/Bird-Deity-Censer-Stand.htmThis is the description at about.com: "This ceramic censer stand is created in the style of the Principal Bird Deity, defined as a supernatural creature with a "long-lip" face and a particular type of avian wing having the profile of a serpent head included around the shoulder. This may equate with the god Kukulkna of the Guatemalan Maya, from which this censer stand comes. (The Aztec name for this same god is Quetzalcoatl.) The piece was created between 250 and 450 AD and is currently at the Los Angles County Museum of Art. Its dimensions are 6.25 x 7.25 x 8.75 inches (15.88 x 18.42 x 22.23 cm).
